Impromptu trip to Noss...

It was Noss open day today. I hadn't planned to go. In fact, I'd been trying to rouse someone to go sea swimming with me somewhere when a friend mentioned they were going to Noss.

So off to the Bressay ferry it was where I spotted this accommodating tern while waiting for it...

Despite the forecast the rain came in for a short while and the midgies too! Luckily it soon cleared up.

The obligatory puffin photos...

They are very cute!

But I have a soft spot for Fulmars. You can really see their albatross nature too when at sea.

Of course Noss is famous for it's gannet colonies. This time of the year complete with chicks too...

But what a mess of old fishing waste they use in their nests...

Sadly often resulting in chicks dying tangled up in it. Hopefully not this one though...

Obviously there are lots more birds there, with big guillemot colonies too...

Not to mention, arctic and great skuas we saw, wrens, sky larks, shags, ravens. This list is not quite endless, but it's pretty long!

Tomorrow I cycle. With a friend out to Uyea, Da Lang Ayre and possibly back over Ronas Hill. We'll see how it goes...

  1. I've never managed a good puffin photo, have tried when were staying at St Abbs and again when on Anglesey - most envious of your bird pix.
