Stunning day on Papa Stour

Some colleagues from work had mentioned they fancied going to Papa Stour for a walk some time ago, so I booked the ferry and hoped that we'd have some good weather by the time we went.

Crikey, did we have good weather, a bit too good really! Flat calm seas, hardly any wind and that big hot orange ball beating down on us. It was great.

We dropped some food and a BBQ off at the ferry waiting terminal once we'd arrived at Papa Stour and set off for an anti-clockwise tour of the best bits of the island.

Robie's Noust in West Voe...

And the route we'd be taking around West voe. Sadly no otters today...

It was a stunning day with terns and bonxies in the air.

And great coastal features...

Every stack seemed to be teeming with birdlife.

Luckily the bonxies and terns weren't feeling aggressive yet. We even saw some arctic skuas too.

Some views! Ronas Hill in the distance...

And a lunch stop on Virda Field.

One of our bunch was a bit more full of energy than the rest and ran around a few headlands that we missed off. He also went up and down a few geos...

A bundle of wood waiting to be collected...

Lyra Skerry and Fogla Skerry...

Lyra Skerry...

What a day and the ground was dry as a bone...

Aesha Head...

When we got back to the ferry terminal we'd done about 10 miles and had a few hours before the return crossing, so we got a BBQ on the go and laid back to enjoy a good feed and relaxing time.

It was an ace day with an ace bunch  and the best day out I've had in a long while.
