A wander to Ruff Loch

Having left Beren having fun at a friend's birthday party Clare and I took the opportunity for a stroll around Sand Wick and Whale Wick on Burra and up to Ruff Loch.

It was great to see some common seals at Sand Wick along with a pup...

And there were plenty of birds about including some bonnie turnstones...

Arctic terns...

Herring gulls...

Fulmar, greater black backed gulls, raven, wren, wheatear, whooper swan and even a pair of artic skuas near Ruff Loch.

It's a lovely area...

There was a herd of ponies on the hillside too; this one looked particularly handsome...

And it's getting to the peak flowering season too on the banks with a wide array out there.

Sea pinks...

Orchids...

Yellow flag iris...

I also managed to get out for a slight sail at the weekend on a friend's boat, Simmer Dim. I say slight sail as the wind was hardly enough to fill the sails so we mainly motored around the Scalloway Isles admiring the views...
