Hard boiled eggs!

Man, they're a pain to peel. I cook them slow, chill them, but still peeling them is a chore that seems to end up removing half the outer white. More so, as the golden treasure inside our home grown eggs is so very yummy. I'd never had golden orange egg mayo until we had our own hens.

Anyway, in desperation for my egg mayo sarnies I googled for it! Below is a no peel way of doing it, just involving a teaspoon of baking soda in the water, taking each shell end off and blowing them out. Cool!


  1. Guess who's going to be trying that tomorrow night.... This could result in a blog post, or at the very least a complaint from the wife about gas after eating boiled eggs. :(

  2. The problem with your eggs is that they're too fresh! We have the same problem with the ones from our hens. The best thing for hard boiled eggs is to use ones at least a couple of weeks old, then they peel much more nicely.

    Anyway, I've been reading your blog for a while, but just haven't posted before. Then my first comment is about something really ordinary like eggs, not even about Shetland!
