Resting up this morning I watched The Secret Life of Waves on BBC iPlayer. I love the sea and love watching waves, but this documentary went a little further than that; pondering on the poetic and philosophical nature of something so primal. It touched on the nature of reality, the impermanence of all things and whether things are really 'objects', just processes that are so slow we don't recognise them as such or even both simultaneously .
Through out the programme were little quotes that related to waves and water from Shakespear to more contemporary writers. This one struck a chord with me...
"you can't stop the waves, but you can learn how to surf them"Jon Kabat-Zinn
I hope to get out to Stenness later today to enjoy the coastal scenery and waves after the storms we've had of late. It's looking bright and dry just now . Unfortunately the camera is more fully charged than me!
